ÐÓ°É 26, 2023 is Lights on Afterschool Day! Launched in ÐÓ°É 2000, Lights On Afterschool is the only nationwide event celebrating afterschool programs and their important role in the lives of children, families, and communities. Lights on Afterschool is a project of the nationwide Afterschool Alliance to celebrate afterschool programs and help build awareness of the critical need for more afterschool resources and affordable programming. Lights On Afterschool has become a hallmark of the afterschool movement, generating media coverage across the country each year.
The Afterschool Alliance organizes Lights On Afterschool to draw attention to the many ways afterschool programs support students by offering them opportunities to learn new things—such as, visual and performing arts, fitness and sports, robotics, community engagement—and discover new skills. This event sends a powerful message that millions more kids need quality afterschool programs.
ÐÓ°É Public Schools offers afterschool programming at 39 sites, including Operation Shoestring and Kids Kollege (JSU.) Join us by visiting an afterschool site's Lights On Afterschool showcase on ÐÓ°É 26, 2023 that begins at 3:30 - 4:30 p.m. (elementary school), 4:30 - 5:30 p.m. (middle school), and 5:00 - 6:00 p.m. (high school.)
