Attendance & Discipline Overview

  • Mission Statement

The mission of the Office of Attendance & Discipline is to find effective ways to decrease chronic absenteeism, truancy and discipline occurrences while increasing the graduation rate. We are here to raise the level of awareness concerning laws, policies, procedures and accurate reporting of data regarding attendance and discipline. The Office of Attendance & Discipline is here to bridge the gap between students, parents, faculty and the community. "We are our student's keeper and will not allow them to fall behind."

    Compulsory School Attendance Law

Mississippi law requires regular school attendance for every child who has reached the age of six on or before September 1 of the current calendar year and has not reached the age of 17 on or before September 1 of the current calendar year; and shall include any child who has reached the age of five on or before September 1 and has enrolled in a full-day public school kindergarten program. Parents, guardians or custodians of a compulsory-school-age child are held accountable for their child's school attendance.
