What the Athletics Department Provides

  • Sports balls, racquet, bat The JPS Athletics Department staff are proud to serve our students and parents. Research tells us that students that participate in sports tend to perform better in class, attend school regularly, and graduate on time. Our daily goal is to provide assistance and support to all JPS 7th-12th grade student-athletes as they push towards their immediate goal of graduating from high school.

Six sports are offered at each of the 12 JPS middle schools to include: football, volleyball, girls and boys basketball, co-ed soccer, girls and boys tennis, and girls and boys track and field. Students in grades 7 and 8 are eligible to participate at the high school in their attendance zone in sports not offered at the middle school level. In JPS these sports are baseball, cross country, fast pitch softball, golf, and swimming.

Eleven or more sports are offered at each JPS high school to include: cross country, volleyball, football, girls and boys basketball, girls and boys soccer, girls and boys powerlifting, girls and boys tennis, girls and boys track and field, fast pitch softball, baseball, golf and swimming.

Athletic equipment and supplies are kept on inventory for all sports in the JPS Athletics Department Warehouse located at 101 Dr. Dennis Holloway Drive in the Enochs Building. A warehouse catalog is available to allow coaches to order and submit requisitions for supplies as needed. The warehouse is re-stocked annually and as needed.

New game uniforms are purchased for each sport every four years by the Athletics Department. The Athletics Department is also responsible for creating game schedules and arranging transportation for all sports teams and events. When a team travels out of town 30 or more miles one-way, the Athletics Department will setup and pay for pre- or post-game meals for the team and coaching staff.
