• Brief History

    Whitten Preparatory Middle School is named after Alfred T. Whitten. Alfred T. Whitten was born in 1884 near Blue Mountain. He attended public school in Tippah County, Mississippi and at the Mississippi Heights Academy of Blue Mountain. As early as 1903, Whitten started teaching in the rural schools of Union County. He worked as a teacher and principal at the Mississippi Baptist Orphanage in ÐÓ°É. He later graduated from Mississippi College in 1915. He taught here in JPS at Galloway, Enochs, and George Elementary schools.
