Amauri Quick Collins: All Around Student Athlete

May 24, 2021

MauriThis school year has been like no other for all student athletes yet, through all adversities with COVID and virtual learning, Amauri Quick-Collins has managed to shine once again. From leading the Lady Tigers basketball team as the highest scorer, averaging 16 points per game with a season high of 30 points against Callaway, being named to the First Team Girls All JPS Team, to becoming a girls Track and Field State Qualifier in the high jump Quick-Collins has been a driving force as a Lady Tiger. Quick-Collins received numerous accolades during the annual Tiger’s Athletic Awards Day with the highest honor being the Tiger Award.

Amauri Quick-Collins has been the starting point guard for the Lady Tigers since she first entered Jim Hill as a freshman and has grown more and more every year. During the 2019-2020 season Amauri helped lead the Lady Tigers to their District 6-5A Championship where she was named MVP and gave them Elite 8 status. Through this leadership Quick-Collins was named to the All JPS Girls 2nd Team as a sophomore.

As Athletic Direct, Coach James Lewis has been able to watch Amauri throughout her matriculation as a student athlete at Jim Hill and this is what he had to say, “During this pandemic, Amauri has been able to juggle multiple sports while maintaining her eligibility for school work. He continued by stating, “This is a true testament to her having time management skills, dedication, determination, hard work and setting achievement goals. She is also one of the most down to earth and humble student athletes that is able to maintain a relationship with her peers and gets along with everybody. She is a well rounded, all around athlete and student that makes her a model student athlete.”

Heading into her senior year, it is projected for Quick-Collins to step up even more as a leader as she continues to work on and enhance her skills.
