G. N. Smith elementary is one of 33 elementary schools in the ÐÓ°É Public School district. It serves students in grades Pre-Kindergarten through 5th grade.
History
Golden Nathaniel Smith (1881-1948), was born in Terry, MS, and attended public schools in Hinds County. He graduated from Tougaloo College in 1903. In that same year, he began teaching in the public schools of Hinds County, where he taught until 1917, with exception of two years (1909-1911) during which he served as principal of a school in Hazlehurst. He taught at Robertson School, Martin School, and Lanier. He retired in 1947.

The vision of G. N. Smith Elementary School is to equip all scholars with the critical skills and knowledge need to attain success by exposing them to quality instruction in an educational environment that fosters creativity, responsibility, and the desire to excel.
