Q. How do I join JROTC?  
A. JROTC is an elective, so students sign-up for JROTC at the same time as other classes. For more information on joining, one should contact his or her counselor.               

Q. Do I have to wear a uniform?  
A. Yes. Students usually wear their uniforms one day a week and when they participate in special ceremonies.  The uniform day is typically on Tuesday or Wednesday.        

Q. Do I have to get a haircut?  
A. That depends.  We want cadets to be comfortable with themselves.  However, a cadet's appearance is a reflection of the entire program and they must represent the Cadet Corps in an acceptable manner.  However, we are the only JROTC in Fayette County that does NOT force you to get a military regulation haircut.  It is usually recommended and, in some cases, required for you to get a haircut if it is uncomely and/or long if you plan on participating in a competition for one of the after-school teams.        

Q. May male students wear earrings?  
A. When not in uniform, all cadets may wear clothing and jewelry that is appropriate for school.  In uniform, certain rules will apply.  Information with regard to all the rules will be given to cadets within the first few weeks of the semester.  Males may not wear earrings.  Young ladies may wear one pair of matching earrings in their ear lobes.  Cadets are allowed one ring per hand and one watch or ID bracelet per wrist.  Necklaces may be worn under the uniform as long as they are not visible.  

Q. Do students pay for uniforms?  
A. No.  Uniforms, books, and equipment are provided on loan from the U.S. Army.  If the uniform is lost or damaged, the student is responsible for replacement of the uniform by paying the cost.        

Q. Is there a military obligation to join the Army JROTC?  
A. No.  JROTC is a high school elective.  Our mission is not to influence you to join the military in any way, shape, or form, but to help young people become better citizens.        

Q. Do I have to go and fight in a war if I join JROTC?  
A. No.  Students are under no military obligation.        

Q. What is taught in JROTC?  
A. Life skills.  JROTC instructors teach financial planning, public speaking, check book management, history, geography, diet/nutrition, exercise, drug prevention, first aid, safety, conflict resolution, self-awareness, prevention of sexual harassment, writing skills, study skills, decision making, problem solving, citizenship, government, etc.        

Q. What if I don't like the course?  
A. Students may change or drop a class within the first three weeks of the semester without question.  After three weeks, students must get special permission to drop a course.  Give us a chance.  If, at the end of the semester, the student wants to change classes, they may.    

Q. Are there out-of-class activities that I may participate in?  
A. Yes.  We have a Drill Team, Cadet Challenge, Adventure Training, Color Guard, and Academic Team, all of which compete against other high school JROTC programs. Visit our teams pages to learn more about each team.  

Q. Must I participate in outside activities?  
A. Yes and No.  There are several graded activities which require the entire Corps of Cadets, such as the Fall Promotion Ceremony, the Spring Awards Ceremony, and the annual Military Ball.  The Battalion is also required to participate in at least one parade per year.  Additionally, each cadet is required to participate in ten hours out of class activities (per semester) as part of the grade.  These co-curricular activities may include: Open House, Middle School Support, Freshman Orientation, Football Game Support, Basketball Game Support, Veterans Day, and Water Missions.  Each of these activities support specific JROTC goals and are designed to supplement the lessons learned in class.  Cadets will be informed of co-curricular activities as they draw near.  No cadet is required to participate in extra-curricular activities such as being a member of a competitive team.
